A PERSONAL PRAYER
God of grace, of love, and of justice,
I love it when things go well when it seems you are blessing my work and life with success. I praise you for bringing results for bringing fruit to the efforts. I praise you when I feel productive, and when I feel the tasks I do actually matter.
But sometimes, that is not the case, and success is hard to come by. Sometimes, I am in a batting slump. Sometimes, I completely fail. These are the times, God, when I need you the most when I cry out to you. These are the times that I find myself driven to my knees, and these are the times when I long to be in relationship with you the most.
But it is the spiritual fails that trouble me most. Sometimes, these spiritual failures even come in the midst of times of greatest success. These are the times when I think I can do life on my own, when I am so confident, when I think I have it “all under control.” This perception is pure illusion. I know that all things are in your hands, and I can do nothing if you are not a part of it. Unless you build the house, those of us who build it labor in vain. So in these moments, when I strain for independence, God, show me my failures and my shortcomings and draw me back to you. Use those failures to bring me to confession and repentance, that I might return again to your purposes for me.
In the name of Christ, I pray,
Amen.
