God,
I often wonder what other people think when they see your church, St. Luke’s Church, here in Houston. I know what I think when I drive in the parking lot, but I am biased. I love this church, your church. I love the way people seek to grow in faith here, becoming more and more like you in the way we love others. I love the way people treat one another with kindness. I love the way St. Luke’s strives to be your catalyst for transformation in our city. I love our mission, our vision, our model for a spiritual journey of growth, and our inside-out habits.
But God, what do other people think when they drive by our church campuses or wander in the door for whatever reason? I pray that they would see in us a reflection of the City of God, that they would think of you rather than think of us, that they would give you glory and honor and praise. Maybe they won’t be able to quite put a finger on it, but I pray they would see something in the bricks and mortar, in the flesh and bone and heart of your people in this place, that makes them want to know and follow Jesus, to love you more, and to love their neighbors in concrete ways just a little bit more.
Oh God, I pray for your church, my church. Bless us and guide us. Amen.
