St. Luke’s continues to partner with families in the Houston area as we work together to rebuild our community! Last week, a team served with a family living on the west side of Houston, in the Energy Corridor.

This family requested help spreading topsoil in their front yard. The homeowner said, “This may seem like a strange request with the many priorities we have (mold remediation, plumbing, electrical and structural damages to name a few) but driving up to our home and walking through a yard of clay speckled with glass and broken tile is so difficult.”

This sweet family—including two boys ages four and six—had spent many hours playing in their yard.  For these boys, memories are rooted in days playing in the sprinkler and practicing baseball. That all changed after Harvey.

During this next year while the family is living in temporary housing, they’ll spend most weekends at their home rebuilding. Now that the St. Luke’s team spread the topsoil and the homeowners sodded, the kids can go back and continue to make memories in that same yard!
